5 Ways Social Media Can Help Your Weight Loss

Woman Holding PhoneIt may seem like a silly concept, but social media can help you reach your weight loss goals. We’ve all seen the incredible “before and after” photos with people who have lost 100lbs and made a complete transformation on Facebook and Instagram. Even if your weight loss goals are more modest, social media can provide support and accountability that you didn’t know you had before.

1. Accountability
When you publicly declare your goals, you are held more accountable to follow through. Let people in your social media network know what you’re up to. Don’t worry, you don’t have to post numbers – instead of announcing a goal weight, you can simply say that you would like to lose 10 lbs. Or, you can simply share your health goals – like jogging a mile without walking or going to Zumba three times a week for a month straight. Whatever your goals are, when you share them you will be more likely to follow through!

2. Document Your Progress
Social media is a great way to document your entire weight loss journey. You most likely post the occasional picture or are tagged in photos by friends. As you go along your weight loss journey you will be able to look back through your photos, and it will be easier to see your success through the photographs than it may be to see in the mirror.

3. Build a Support System
Having a solid support system is a key component in weight loss success. Your social network of friends and family can encourage you and help you when you are in need. Some of your friends on Facebook and Instagram may even be going through a similar experience! When you open up about your weight loss journey you might be surprised at how many people are right there beside you.

4. Inspire Others
As you post about your weight loss journey, your friends and family will see your incredible dedication to bettering your health and improving your lifestyle, and they will in turn be inspired to do the same. Nothing beats the feeling of knowing that you inspired someone to change their life for the better!

5. Be Inspired
Social media is also a great place to find inspiration for yourself. Maybe you have friends that post about their weight loss journey whom you can connect with and share motivation. You can also use social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest to discover content and connect with strangers along a similar journey. Try searching hashtags like #weightloss and #motivation on Instagram, or search for workout tips or inspirational quotes on Pinterest.

Take control of your weight and start planning out your meals. When you are prepared you are less likely to find yourself reaching for a donut at the work meeting or a pizza for dinner. You will be pleased with how much easier it is to follow a healthy eating plan and achieve your weight management goals!
