Tomato and pasta is one of the most popular combinations and can be prepared in different ways each of which offer a unique and flavoursome treat to the taste buds. Some easy to make and healthy tomato pasta dishes include:

Buttery Tomato Pasta

This pasta is made with basic and simple ingredients that perfectly balance and enhance the sweet and tangy flavours of the tomato. It is quick and easy to make and makes a wholesome meal.


Ingredients Required

1 packet of macaroni or penne pasta
1 can of tomatoes
2 teaspoons sugar
2 tablespoons of butter
Freshly milled pepper
Salt as per taste
Pinch of dried basil (optional)
Parmesan cheese, grated

Method And Preparation

Cook the pasta as per the directions given on the packet, and keep aside.

Melt the butter in a saucepan. Roughly chop the can tomatoes and add them to the pan, simmer while stirring for a few minutes. Add in the sugar and the seasoning, simmer for about 5 minutes until the tomatoes are done.

Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, mix well, sprinkle some Parmesan and serve hot. This dish takes about 20 minutes to make and tastes best when accompanied with garlic bread

Basil And Tomato Pasta

This classic pasta recipe is an international favourite and is a menu must have of any Italian restaurant. However, this dish can easily be made at home and enjoyed with the entire family.


Ingredients Required

1 packet bow pasta

For the Sauce

2 cups tomato pulp
1 onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon garlic paste
Olive oil
2 tablespoons tomato puree
1 tablespoon red paprika
12 to 15 fresh basil leaves, chopped
1 tablespoon sugar
4 to 5 tablespoons, full fat fresh cream
2 tablespoons olive oil or
salt as per taste
Parmesan cheese

Method and Preparation

For the pasta

Cook the pasta as according to the instructions on the packet. Leave aside to cool.

For the sauce

Heat olive oil in a pan and add in the onions, saute for a few minutes and add the garlic paste, mix well and subsequently add the tomato pulp, simmer for about 5 minutes.

Add the red paprika, basil leaves, sugar, tomato puree and the seasoning, if the consistency of the sauce is too thick then add some water and bring to boil.

Add the cream and basil leaves and Mix well. Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, and mix well. To serve, garnish with some basil leaves and cheese and serve hot. This dish takes about 15 minutes to prepare and serves up to 4 persons.

Bacon And Tomato Pasta

The tanginess of the tomatoes and the crispiness of the bacon add a unique texture and taste to this dish, making it a popular Italian delicacy.

400 grams bacon or pancetta, chopped

Method And Preparation

Cook the pasta as per the directions given on the packet. Saute the bacon in a non stick pan until crisp and place on a paper towel. Add the olive oil to the pan and saute the onions.

Add the seasoning, chili flakes, garlic paste and saute for a couple of minutes before adding the tomatoes. Simmer and add the wine. To serve, add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce, mix and garnish with cheese and serve hot.
